Call of Duty franchise is an electronic game of first-person shooter created by Ben Chichoski. The series started on PC, later expanded to consoles and handhelds. Most games are set in World War II, with the exception of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, located in modern times, since Call of Duty: Black Ops, the story unfolds during the Cold War.

The games of the series are published by Activision and is developed primarily by producing Infinity Ward and Treyarch, with other games produced by Gray Matter Interactive, Spark Unlimited, Pi Studios, Amaze Entertainment, Rebellion Developments and n-Space using a variety of engines, such as the id Tech 3, 4.0 IW and Treyarch NGL. Among other products of the franchise are a line of action figures designed by Plan-B Toys, a card game created by Upper Deck, and a comic book series published by WildStorm.

Currently, the franchise is the most profitable gaming history, cashing in on their latest release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 more than 400 million U.S. dollars in just 24 hours. This position was previously assumed by Grand Theft Auto franchise, but this difference was lost with the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the second half of 2007. In addition to ensuring first in rank games, Call of Duty also leads in the entertainment category, as the most profitable product, exceeding for example, cinema classics such as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings

In November 2009, total sales of all games in the series had surpassed 55 million units sold worldwide in the process getting a profit of three billion dollars.
