ICO

It was created and directed by Fumito Ueda, who wanted to create a game with the minimalist concept of "boy meets girl". Originally planned to be released for the PlayStation console, the development of Ico lasted about four years. The team used an approach of "subtracting design" to reduce elements of gameplay that interfered with the ambiance and history of the game to produce a high level of attraction that surrounds the player.
The game's protagonist is a young boy named Ico, born with horns and with this reason, it is considered a bad omen by the village. Warriors imprison Ico village into a fortress abandoned. During their explorations by the fortress, Ico encounters Yorda, the daughter of the Queen of the castle. The Queen plans to use Yorda's body to extend its lifespan, so Ico tries to flee the scene with Yorda to avoid the fate of the girl, keeping her safe while protecting the shadow creatures that try to get it back. Throughout the game, the player controls Ico and must traverse the castle always protecting the fragile Yorda, helping her to cross obstacles and solving puzzles to proceed.
Ico introduced several technical and design elements to the video game industry, which includes a story told with minimal dialogue and animation and key frame with bloom, which influenced other subsequent games. Despite not achieve commercial success, the game was widely praised for its visual art and its plot elements, thus receive several awards, including nominations "Game of the Year" and three Game Developers Choice Awards.Ico is since listed in various lists of top games, and is generally considered more of a work of art than a game itself. He was re-launched in Europe in 2006, in conjunction with the release of Shadow of the Colossus in the region, the spiritual successor to Ico.
